Humane Journeys: Total eclipse at the Ranch

April 7-9, 2024
SOLD OUT

Journey with us to our world-renowned animal sanctuary and make memories that will last a lifetime. During your specially-curated journey, you will witness the work the Humane Society of the United States is doing to give these animals the life they deserve. Your participation provides critical resources needed to care for the residents of Black Beauty Ranch and it ensures even more animals can be rescued from harm’s way.

This will be a special time to visit the ranch as it will take place during the total solar eclipse, which happens when the moon passes between the sun and Earth, causing the sky to darken. The sun’s corona, which is usually obscured by the bright light of the sun, will be visible.

History of Black Beauty Ranch

Founded in 1979 by author and animal advocate Cleveland Amory, Black Beauty Ranch's 1,400+ acres are home to nearly 650 domestic and exotic animals, many of whom were rescued from slaughterhouses, biomedical research laboratories and trophy hunting ranches. Others came from roadside zoos or were victims of the exotic pet trade. Bison and cattle, horses and burros, antelope and apes, reptiles and tigers—all have permanent, safe homes at this animal sanctuary.

This trip includes:
Tiger sits in the grass and stares at the camera

Animal enrichment activities.

A near-total solar eclipse in a dark sky

A large pig standing in a grassy pasture, looking at the viewer

An up-close view of farm animals.

Interacting with animals on Humane Journeys

Humane Journeys maintains a responsible and respectful animal-watching program. We ensure that our presence does not disturb the animals and we'll help you do the same. We will lead guests into areas where they will have the best chances to view the animals and explain how best to interact with them.
