Dear :

We want to remind you of two events that are rapidly approaching. Here is your opportunity to meet visionary thinkers on nuclear and environmental issues and engage with them in making a difference in our world. Please read more and RSVP below.

On November 8, please join national Physicians for Social Responsibility in honoring, among others, Bill McKibben of, Earthjustice, Dr. Arjun Makhijani of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research, Dr. Daniel Ellsberg, and Beatrice Finn of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Read the full list of honorees.

We are especially pleased to see Dr. Arjun Makhijani recognized for his lifelong work on on nuclear disarmament and safey issues. While many of us in Maryland know Dr. Makhijani for his work on renewable energy and energy efficiency, his work and that of his colleagues at IEER was part of U.S. grassroots efforts to shut down nuclear weapons plants at the end of the Cold War and to stop construction of a new nuclear weapons complex. His work also contributed to the efforts to get compensation programs for U.S. atomic veterans and nuclear weapons workers. IEER's analysis of the differential impact of radiation exposure on women and children (of which he is the principal author) contributed to the debate that led to its inclusion in the pre-amble of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. He was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2007 for "his tireless efforts to provide the public with accurate and understandable information on energy and environmental issues."

Also, you are invited to join us on November 17 for this important Maryland conference on steps we can take as individuals and organizations to help prevent nuclear war. The response to this conference has been overwhelming, as more and more Maryland residents recognize the dangers and wasted resources associated with nuclear weapons.

At this conference, leading authorities on nuclear weapons will discuss the latest in nuclear risks, and conduct breakout sessions on how to organize effectively on this issue in the era of Trump. This free conference is possible because of generous support from the Goucher Human Rights and Nonviolence Fund, created and endowed by Professor Joe Morton. It is being organized by Prevent Nuclear War/Maryland, and is cosponsored by Chesapeake PSR and other national and local peace and environmental organizations. Lunch will be provided.
