Dear :

Here are a few important updates to share with you regarding the 100% Clean Renewable Energy and Equity Act sponsored by Delegate Shane Robinson.

This bill would transition Maryland away from the subsidy system underpinning Maryland’s current Renewable Portfolio Standard and require utilities to enter into long-term power purchase agreements for the actual purchase of clean renewable energy.

Here are some ways you can get involved and show your support for this ground breaking legislation. With our climate rapidly destabilizing, we need your activism now more than ever.

Join us at a Rally, Press Conference, and Committee Hearing for 100 percent Renewable Maryland on March 5th in Annapolis.

  • The Rally and Press Conference will be at Lawyers Mall at 1 p.m. Lawyers Mall is on State Circle, right in front of the Maryland State House.
  • The House Committee Hearing is at 2 pm in the House Office Building, Room 230.

‚ÄčEducate yourself!  The issues around the purchase and use of renewable energy can be complicated and confusing. Here are some resources to look at:

  • A video by Arjun Makhijani, Ph.D. of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research sharing how we can move Maryland off fossil fuels and to 100% clean, renewable energy by 2035.
  • A fact sheet that explains the 100% Clean Renewable Energy and Equity Act.
  • Two blogs (here and here) that discuss our concerns with the current Renewable Portfolio Standard's reliance on mechanisms that inflate the amount of renewable energy Maryland uses and costs ratepayers.

Thank you for all you do. We hope to see you there.
