 Dear ,
It is with great anguish that we are writing to tell you that prominent Tibetan political prisoner, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, has died in a Chinese Prison. Read International Tibet Network's statement http://tibetnetwork.org/?p=10962
We know that you, as someone who has supported the campaign for Tenzin Delek's release, will share this grief. He was a true Tibetan hero - an inspirational teacher and social activist as well as a revered buddhist leader, wrongfully and outrageously imprisoned for a crime he did not commit.
The Tibet movement has campaigned for Tenzin Delek Rinpoche's release since he was detained in 2002. Local Tibetans in his home region have risked their lives to protest his innocence. In 2014 his family filed an official application for medical parole, the years of torture and confinement having exacted a dreadful toll on his health. As of the time of writing, we don't know the exact cause of his death, but China is clearly accountable both for the wrongful imprisonment of an innocent man, and his wrongful death.
Please join us in taking action to spread the news and help hold China to account for this tragic outrage.
1. Change your profile picture on social media. Choose from a stylised image of Tenzin Delek Rinpoche (see right, download from here) or a photograph (below right, download from here). 2. Write to your Foreign Ministry, asking your government to take action. A Sample Letter is available here. You can adapt it for sending to the Chinese Embassy in your country too. This letter includes the important request to release Tenzin Delek Rinpoche's body to his family, so that the proper Tibetan buddhist rituals can be observed. 3. Join a protest near you. Locate your nearest Tibet Group on our digital map - https://tibetnetwork.org/find-a-tibet-group/ - and contact them to find out what actions are taking place. You can also check for updates on the Network's Facebook page (where there is a further choice of profile picture) https://www.facebook.com/InternationalTibetNetwork.
Many thanks for your support at this sad and difficult time.
In solidarity, Alison, Jigdal, Mandie, Tseten and Tereluz.
