Happy Valley Forest Hike Series – A Historical, Geological and Natural Gem Worth Exploring!


There has been much interest in the Nature Conservancy of Canada's (NCC's) Happy Valley Hike Series June dates – thank you to all of our keen nature-lovers! As summer begins to unfold in Happy Valley Forest, we're pleased to announce additional dates for July.

Happy Valley Forest is located 30 minutes north of Toronto, in King Township. These themed and guided hikes will offer something for everyone, from the rich history of explorers and their travels across the forest, to wetlands, geology, species information and photography opportunities. Hikes will be for all levels, from experts to beginners, and will include several kid-friendly hikes.

Something is Fluttering in the Air

DATE: Wednesday, July 6
START TIME: 10:00 a.m.
DURATION: Approximately 2 hrs
RATING/TERRAIN: Easy

Change is necessary for growth—just ask a butterfly. Join us at NCC's Love Mountain Nature Reserve as we learn about the changes butterflies go through and experience the local diversity of different species. Nets will be made available. Family-friendly.

Seeing the Forest Through the Trees

DATE: Sunday, July 10
START TIME: 10:00 a.m.
DURATION: Approximately 2 hrs
RATING/TERRAIN: Easy

Growing up can be tough. From sapling to forest giant, join us as we learn about the role trees have in our forests at NCC's Goldie Feldman Nature Reserve. Family-friendly.

Attack of the Forest Invaders!

DATE: Saturday, July 16
START TIME: 10:00 a.m.
DURATION: Approximately 2 hrs
RATING/TERRAIN: Easy - Moderate

A change in perception can change everything. Join NCC staff at the Barnett Woods Nature Reserve as we visit areas where non-native species have invaded, learn about their ecology and how changing public perception and increasing awareness can help fight the battle against invaders.

Home Sweet Hole, with lunch at Pine Farms Orchards

DATE: Thursday, July 21
START TIME: 10:00 a.m.
DURATION: Approximately 2 hrs
RATING/TERRAIN: Easy

This is a walking, connect-the-dots tour of the tree-cavity habitat available to wildlife of NCC's Goldie Feldman Nature Reserve. Learn about the great variety of wildlife that live in tree cavities in the forest, including the elusive and nocturnal flying squirrel. Participants are invited to nearby Pine Farms Orchards for lunch after the tour for another short hike and to socialize with other participants. Lunch not provided. Family-friendly.

Mind, Body and Nature: Exploring our Mental and Physical Connection to the Natural World

DATE: Sunday, July 24
START TIME: 10:00 a.m.
DURATION: Approximately 2 hrs
RATING/TERRAIN: Easy

Join NCC staff and a certified yoga instructor at the Goldie Feldman Nature Reserve to explore the mental and physical benefits of maintaining a positive relationship with yourself and nature. Increase your awareness of nature's health benefits and enjoy an hour long outdoor yoga session in the Happy Valley Forest. Bring a yoga mat.
