Today, I have some very exciting news to share with you: the use of gestation crates to continuously confine pregnant pigs will be phased out in Canada! This landmark decision affects more than one million animals, and is the most significant victory to date in our campaign to fight against factory farming.

A monumental step»

Keeping mother pigs in tiny gestation crates for nearly their entire lives is one of the cruelest practices used in agriculture. The adoption of the National Farm Animal Care Council's group housing standard represents a massive accomplishment for animals and their welfare.

Although this is a great step, we still have much to do to improve the lives of the 700 million farm animals raised for food in Canada each year.
